Stuart O’Shaughnessy and the Archives of Time
Summary of the 85,000-word middle grade fantasy
Ten-year-old Stuart O’Shaughnessy wouldn’t spill his family secret for all the Star Wars Legos in Texas–especially not to his best friend, EZ Foster. EZ might think being part-fairy was weird. He might not stick around long enough to learn about the super strength, the extra-long life, the wings. He sure wouldn’t believe Stu’s part-fairy dad works in the library just so he can guard the Archives of Time.
Then a seething, jet-black mass erupts out of Fairyland, smashes into the roof of dad’s library, and explodes across North Texas like the wave of a nuclear blast. It’s the virus that lies at the heart of some of the most horrible crimes in history, from the slaughter of Native Americans at Wounded Knee to the mass murders in Rwanda.
EZ’s hit. Stu and the fairies reach him in time to save him from the disease. He’s seen the thumb-size guys with wings and magic water pistols, though. Stu’s busted. Wha’t worse, Stu’s dad is infected, and the virus turns him cold, hard, and criminal.
Together with his sister, EZ, and a Lego-sized, armed and dangerous friend, Stu breaks into the Archives and travels into the past. There he must outsmart a Guardian of Time and face down the source of the disease to save his dad . . . and history.
